Colesville Strawberry Festival
May 31, 2008 will be the 25th annual Colesville Strawberry Festival. The Festival is a very special event in Colesville and the only social event that encompasses every person in Colesville. Amid the children’s games, crafts, business tables, ice cream, and hot dogs will be lots of fun and special entertainment. Among other events will be the White Oak Chorus, the Greentop Ramblers (Band and Singers), the Westover Chorus and a special appearance by Batonist Alexis Glears of the Calverton Cavaliers. The Festival is held at the Old Colesville School and Colesville Recreation area between 10 and 4 P.M. at the corner of Hobbs Drive and New Hampshire Avenue.
There are many people who volunteer at this special event, but we would like to highlight our very special students from Springbrook High School. The three young ladies are members of the National Honor Society and they will provide the Festival with 40 young people who will get the equipment out of the barn, set up the Festival on Saturday morning, take down the Festival on Saturday evening. They will also help sell strawberries, dish out ice cream, work the children’s games. These young ladies are Michelle Okwalik, Charnelle Pinkett and Tanzina Iman. Dave Michaels is working with the Springbrook students.
The Chairman of this year’s Festival is Jack Sherman of Stonegate. If you have any questions or want to volunteer this year, please call him at 301-384-8071. Last year the Festival was able to give $5000 to C-4 which runs the clothes closet, toy closet and baby closet. The Colesville Strawberry Festival is truly Colesville event, please plan to be there.
Ned Bayley’s two books, “History of Colesville” and “Fathers of Caleb Whitcomb”, an historical novel taking place in our area will be for sale at the Festival as well ass our usual T-Shirts.
To increase Colesville’s identity and boost our community’s pride, the GCCA’s Beautification Committee launched a “Welcome to Colesville” sign project. The project has been completed with the installation of two signs on the north and south New Hampshire Avenue approaches to Colesville, and two signs on the Randolph Road approaches to Colesville. Generous financial support was received from the community, a County grant, and State and Local elected officials.
The Colesville Community is invited to a Dedication/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Randolph Road Signs. It will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday May 17th. Meet at Randolph Village located at 531 Randolph Road - adjacent to Holy Family Seminary.
Thank you to all that contributed to make this final phase possible and add to the beauty of our community.
